We learn every day, don’t we? I had never known a fish could be fried with flour because I grew up in a home and environment where it is not done that way. Still, relocating to another environment, I realized frying fish with flour is a norm on every Nigerian street.
I could remember purchasing Hot, fried fish wrapped in a newspaper. Yes, it was the fish fried in flour, and I must say it tastes great. However, if it stays till the next day and is not refried, you won’t like the taste. I have had the experience, and I’ve decided never to buy fish not fried on that day of purchase.
I don’t want to be the only one who has enjoyed this great delicacy; I will be sharing how to fry fish with flour, Ingredients, and benefits.
How To Fry Fish With Flour
Ingredients

- Fish,
- Flour,
- Salt, Maggi,
- Vegetable oil,
- Cayenne powder, lime, lemon, pepper (These are optional)
Steps To Make Fish With Flour
Step 1: clean your fish and remove all sorts,
Step 2: Arrange in a tray or bowl lined with a paper towel and sprinkle salts on all sides to extract water,
Step 3: Pour oil into a pan and place on medium heat; if you are using the oven, let it be at 350°F,
step 4: You can season your fish with salt and Maggie. Pepper is optional,
Step 5: Add little salt and Maggie into your flour in a separate bowl,

Step 6: Pick the fish one at a time, dip it into the flour to coat, shake off the loose coating and drop the fish into the hot oil until you have a golden-colored fish.
Continue with this process until you are done frying all of the fish.
If you are putting your fish into the stew, there is no reason to coat it with flour; however, if you are eating with Jollof rice, drinking it with Garri, or for any other purpose aside from Stew, it is perfect.
Benefits of Frying Fish With Flour
There are numerous benefits attached to frying fish with flour, but you never know what it is until you give it a trial. The benefits include;
- It makes your fish crispy,
- It reduces oil to spatter,
- It gives a delicate natural golden brown texture,
- It adds flavor and gives your fish a juicy taste, etc
Fish takes less time to cook, so if you don’t fry your fish with flour, it takes time to attain the golden brown color while the inside is already cooked; with flour coating, you get a speedy brown color without the fish being overcooked and ending up with a dry and tasteless fish.

Have you ever tried fish fried with flour? If you have not, you are missing out; you can give it a trial today. You can add more spice to it if you need a new taste by adding lime, Cayenne powder, and any other spice you know.
