The joy of motherhood is the birth of her child. This is perhaps why every great mother takes the slightest opportunity to advise her children. From being yelled at as a child to being gently advised as a young adult, mom, or even grandma, some of those words our mom said came in very handy. And we were grateful that someone told us.
These words may have sounded like rants at times, or they may have been unnecessary at the time. No worries, I’m here to remind us.
Here are five best motherly advice that you might have ignored.
1. Your home is never far from the one you love.
This is a mom’s way of saying, choose your friends wisely. Quite a number of times, we’ve ignored this mother’s advice and kept holding on to people who have made us a “second option” in their lives.
It is not just romantic relationships that can be toxic. There could also be toxic friendships. It’s best to stay away instead of backing up wrong actions with flimsy excuses.
And if you turn this advice around, you will get, “the house of the one you love is never far away.” This simply means, being a good friend too.
2. Don’t put off till tomorrow what you have to do today.
A stitch in time saves nine. This advice comes in so many forms. The core lesson is to try as much as possible to do things as soon as possible.
Remember when you tried to procrastinate house chores? This mother’s advice, ringing in your head, can be an automatic time saver. You probably heard it more as a teenager, but it still holds true now. Most of the motherly advice we got as children is the basis of most of our success as adults.
3. Some friends are silver, while others are gold.
Some of the advice some of us may have overlooked is to cherish the friends we have. The ones we’ve come a long way with, others we just met, and even friendships that are to come. Old friendships and new ones alike should always be valued and never forgotten (the good ones).
4. You can not please everyone.
Our third motherly piece of advice talks about cherishing valuable friendships. But, as our mamas must have mentioned too, not every friend is a friend. And we should not let someone talk us down, or try to change in a way that is wrong just to please someone.
You cannot please everyone, and that’s fine. This advice leads to a happy life.
5. Together we stand.
Our fifth piece of advice is more for the family. No good mother wants her children to always be yelling or screaming at each other. Families are meant to work together and look out for each other. This last sentence might sound cliché, but unity is what drives any group forward.
Motherly advice, while trying to teach us about life, promotes moral values. It could also bring a family together.
