Love means different things to different people. In recent times, people mistake crushing, infatuations, lust, likeness and even obsession. ‘Obsession’ is wrongly interchanged with love. Although it begins with a sincere and honest desire, in the long run, it becomes a concern and breeds toxicity.
If you are confused whether you have an obsessed partner or not, kindly check out these 5 signs your partner is obsessed with you.
Love is a two-way street in which both you and your partner ensure that your wants are addressed and that both of you are satisfied. On the other hand, an obsessive spouse is solely concerned with addressing their own needs. They don’t seem to mind if your relationship is making you sick. They only desire power over you so they may impose their will on you.
Your lover will never block you from seeing your family and friends if they truly love you. They don’t mind if you spend more time with your friends and family than with them. On the other side, the person who is fascinated with you is suspicious and wants you to be with them all the time. They will make arrangements for you to spend time with your family and friends instead of allowing you to see them.
Physical or verbal violence has no place in a genuine love relationship. Even if both couples disagree on something, no one resorts to violence to get their way. An obsessive lover, on the other hand, cannot bear any opposition. They will want you to adhere to their wishes and will place pressure on you to do so. They will defend their acts by claiming that they had no choice or that they did it for your benefit.
It is acceptable for a couple to seek each other’s ideas and advice on a variety of issues. However, if your partner is the sole decision-maker and makes all decisions for you, this suggests compulsive behaviour. That is not love, and they wish to have power over you and your life.
Throughout their relationship, a couple in love should always have respect for each other. This includes respecting each other’s views and opinions.
If your partner obsesses about you, your respect for them will steadily deteriorate and may be replaced by resentment and dread. Fear is especially prevalent in situations involving abuse. It gets you suffocated because you are under someone’s wishes and opinions. It is not a great feeling.
4. Lack of trust:
When you’re in love, your partner has complete faith in you. They understand that no matter how long you are away from them, you will always return. In an obsessive relationship, trust is non-existent. They will not have faith in you, no matter how much you reassure them with words and actions. They will always inquire about your whereabouts and may even demand documentation.
Another show of distrust is when your lover shows up outside your office without calling. It should suggest they care about you and enjoy surprising you. Your partner, on the other hand, is fascinated with you if they frequently visit your office unannounced and even frequents the location to keep an eye on you.
5. Zoned out:
When someone enters a love connection, it is natural for them to put all of their attention on it, temporarily ignoring those who are important to them. This type of behaviour lasts for a while before returning to normal.
With an obsessive relationship, however, this is not the case. They begin to ignore individuals close to them to focus on you. They gradually lose all of their friends and even limit contact with their family to focus solely on you. Obsession, not love, is losing oneself for one’s spouse.
When people discover they are not compatible as a pair, it is natural for them to part up. An obsessive lover, on the other hand, does not know how to deal with rejection. They’ll throw a tantrum if you tell them you want a break from them. If you ask them to break up with you, they will threaten you, claiming that if you leave them, they will harm themselves. It’s difficult to get away from their obsessive affection.
If you have a partner with at least 3 of these signs, you should find ways to take them to see a therapist.
